Carousel Childcare Provider
Qualification Requirements:
A childcare provider working under the direction of the Director, is expected to
assist in implementing a developmental program for a group of children to which they are assigned. While
not responsible for designing an instructional program, an assistant must be able to work with the children
individually or in groups, either in support of the Director or alone for limited time periods. He or
she must be able to establish a warm, supportive relationship with the children, have high sensitivity to
their environmental safety, and be able to assist their personal care needs in a positive natural manner.
Preferably a childcare provider will have a high school diploma and at least one year experience working with young children
in a day care or closely related setting. Other child development related education is helpful and eagerness to
learn more about the subject is essential.
Responsibilities
1. Assist in the direction of indoor and outdoor activities as planned.
2. Help supervise playground activities, lunch and snack periods, restroom
breaks, and rest times.
3. Sit at the table with children during mealtime to model good eating habits,
good manners and appropriate social skills.
4. Provide a quiet, relaxing atmosphere for rest time.
5. Help children with toileting and dressing.
6. Responsible for attending to the daily needs oaf the infants and toddlers enrolled in
the program (i.e. diaper changing, promoting positive social interaction, and following feeding and sleeping schedules).
7. Observe and listen to each individual child, show him
respect and guide him effectively in his behavior.
8. Share pertinent information and observations with the head teacher.
9. Follow curriculum, discipline guidelines and promote a healthy clean and
safe environment.
10. Assist the Director in preparation for activities.
11. Assist the Director in developing and maintaining consistent
expectations and consequences in the classroom.
12. Take ownership of the classroom by maintaining equipment, keeping the classroom clean,
providing a pleasant atmosphere, and teaching others to respect the classroom.
13. Participate in staff meetings, planning sessions,
workshops, open house and children's programs.
14. Participate in an intergenerational program with seniors and young children
involved in various activities (i.e. music, art, exercise, storytelling).
15. Take over the Director's responsibilities when asked in the absence of the Director.
16. Understand developmental goals and assist the Director in implementing them.
17. Know parents' names and develop a warm, friendly relationship with them.
18. Above all, bring and display a joyous attitude toward your work with children.
Requirements:
1. Carousel childcare providers will complete and maintain requirements as set by Washoe County
Social Services. This includes: sheriffs card and 12 hours of continuing education. Childcare providers will complete
and maintain CPR certification as required by the Continuum.
